At the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020 it was globally recognised that vaccinations were the most effective and sustainable route to save lives.
With daily emerging information around new vaccines with varying transportation constraints, an innovative supply chain was required to reduce the time from vaccine manufacture to ‘jabs in arms’.
Using NHS clinical experience, coupled with specialist partners and supply chain experts, a blank sheet of paper turned into an innovative supply chain to rival and dwarf major supermarkets, ready for any vaccine and any challenging characteristics that would be forthcoming.
In the last 2 years that supply chain has been resilient, effective, and has contributed in saving more than 128,000 lives in England, and has evolved to ever changing circumstances and priorities.
As part of the NHS England Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, I am extremely proud that our teams and partners have been nominated for 5 awards at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2022:
· The Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Excellence Award
· The Public Sector Supply Chain Award
· The Supply Chain Innovation Award
· The Supply Chain Operations Award
· The Supply Chain Strategy and Design Award
To be a part of the Vaccine Programme is a highlight of my career, and one that I am immensely proud to be involved with. To be recognised and nominated by the Supply Chain industry is a huge honour, and I look forward to the chance to meet and celebrate what has been a fantastic collaborative achievement by all involved.
